Even though 2020 has been a very challenging year, in just over a week, much of the country will be gathering together around various dinner tables and in front of hearty meals to give expressions of gratitude for the many benefits that have been received in recent times and simply to enjoy some uninterrupted fellowship.

Because of the enduring and seemingly relentless nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Thanksgiving celebrations will be unlike many others in years past–a reality that I and countless others are acknowledging and adapting to. The fact is, there are daily news reports and updates from public health officials about rising rates of infections and hospitalizations in Illinois (http://dph.illinois.gov/covid19/covid19-statisticsof increasing rates in Illinois).

As a resident of this state, it is important to practice the health and safety measures announced by my local government and public health officials. And, as Chiropractic physicians in the State of Illinois can provide both primary care and complementary and alternative care, I have to be aware and mindful of medical information that is being communicated and practices that are currently in the field and respond accordingly. The time for doing this is now, as a student of chiropractic medicine, as well as in the future, when I am a practicing physician.

So, this year, I and my nuclear family will be having a smaller and cozier gathering. I will look forward to joining my larger family via Zoom, and I will send out cards and virtual well wishes to extended family and friends. As I said in my last post, I have much to be thankful for, so I will give thanks, take appropriate protective measures to stay safe with the goal of being well after Thanksgiving and beyond.

Share how you plan to give thanks, be safe, and stay well this Thanksgiving!
