FERPA
As the custodian of National University's academic records, the
Office of the Registrar is committed to the security and
confidentiality of student records information in accordance with
the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (as
Amended).
FERPA governs the release of education records maintained by
National University and access to these records. This law applies
to all levels of education from K-12 as well as postsecondary
education. Any educational institution (school or other entity that
provides educational services and is attended by students) and
educational agency (entity that administers schools directly linked
to it) that receives funds under and program administered by the
U.S. Secretary of Education is required to comply with the rules
outlined under FERPA.
Student Identification Cards
Each student must possess and carry a current, valid student
identification card for the utilization of university facilities
and to access library materials. Identification card photos will be
taken by the Office of the Registrar (located on the second floor
of Janse Hall). Replacement identification cards are subject to a
$5.00 replacement charge.
International Students
The Office of the Registrar is responsible for maintaining all
F-1 student visa information according to the guidelines set forth
by the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The Registrar's
staff will advise students on immigration matters, provide
travel authorizations and walk students through the steps necessary
to apply for practical training. International students studying on
an F-1 student visa are encouraged to contact the Office of the
Registrar if they have any questions concerning their immigration
status.
Student Loan Deferrments
National University participates in the National Student
Clearinghouse located in Herndon, Virginia. Three times a trimester
(after the add/drop period, at mid-term, and after finals), the
University submits a report of student enrollment status to the
Clearinghouse which, in turn, supplies verification of enrollment
to lending agencies.
Students who receive paper deferment forms from their lenders
are encouraged to submit them to the Office of the Registrar. We
will forward the forms to the Clearinghouse for processing. A small
number of lenders utilize paper deferments these days. For a
complete list of lenders utilizing electronic enrollment
notification for the purpose of loan deferments, please contact
us.
