It’s always a little bit challenging to get back into the swing of things after our end of trimester break. Those two weeks off fly by and are over before you even feel like you were on a break in the first place! This break was filled with anticipation, because my first week back I got to begin the clinic intern phase of my Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program. At the end of the last term, I took my clinic entrance exam and renewed my basic life support certification in preparation for being able to see patients of my own.
Things started up slowly, I got to see two whole patients all by m self, which sounds like nothing, but it felt huge. This is after all, the whole reason that I came back to school. It’s a little nerve-racking sitting down with that first patient and seeing what you really do know. I am looking forward to the coming weeks when I can continue to test my knowledge. Being in the clinic changes the way I think about the information I am learning in my classes: everything has an application now, and I am lucky enough to be there from now until I graduate in 2020!
There is still a full year before I will see patients as a chiropractic intern, because of the flex track pace that I have chosen to accommodate the other degree, but I think I will probably be just as excited. Each program is a little bit different in treatment philosophies and skills performed. If you are still in the process of deciding which professional program at this school will suit you the best, try making an appointment over at the clinic to check things out.
