As finals season is approaching, it is more important than ever to remember our purpose for being in the chiropractic profession. When I was growing up watching my mother go to a chiropractor, I always believed that chiropractors only performed adjustments on patients. Even after a lot of research into the chiropractic profession before starting at NUHS, I did not know the great importance of learning many different aspects of medicine. Entering phase II of the program began putting this greater concept together in my mind, that chiropractors have more knowledge and are more diverse than just “adjusters.”
I believe that one of the hardest parts of entering finals week is that it is easy to forget how quickly school passes, and how important chiropractic physicians have become. I have learned so many additional techniques and modalities to help patients, besides just manipulative therapies. Through my chiropractic assistant position, I have acknowledged and seen the importance of having a wide knowledge base in our profession. Some chiropractors act as primary care for many of their patients, and with that respect comes the necessity for us to know greater amounts of information. Click here for a program overview.
I wish everyone the best of luck on finals, but I hope that we are all able to keep in mind our primary purpose and goal, which is to have a great and expansive knowledge base to be able to help our patients in complex and diverse ways.
