My Magnificent Monstrous Monstera

During the pandemic I decided to try my hand at indoor plants. Usually, I have a bad track record with plants, especially succulents. One day as I was perusing through Pinterest, I ran across the most beautiful plant I had ever seen!! The Monstera had leaves that split and was reminiscent of a lush, tranquil place with the sound of waves crashing against the shore. I had to have it, so to Amazon I went and purchased one.

Moniques Plants

I was so excited I did not do any research and at the start it did not seem intimidating at all. My plant purchases were a step toward creating a Zen room for exercise and meditation. Well as you can see by the photos all was going great. My other plants were doing awesome, but the Monstera took over the room. I headed back to Pinterest to figure out what to do…I found a site that suggested using a moss pole to help the Monstera to grow upwards instead of outwards…big OOPS on my part.

Honestly, I am afraid I love it, yet I know it must be tamed. I have determined that I will tackle this project over Thanksgiving break. I have yet to decide what kind of pole I will buy. I will also need to tie it to the pole, and I will need a bigger pot. I know it needs to be done but I am apprehensive to say the least. This time I am reading and watching videos. I will update you all when I have completed this daunting feat!

Monique Carter

My name is Monique Carter and I am currently in my 4th trimester of National University's AOM program. I chose this program because the basic tenets of Chinese Acupuncture and Herbs align with a holistic healing process that is steeped in years of tradition and research. I anticipate that learning these skills and applying this knowledge will allow me to help many in need. Starting this journey at the age of 49 has been humbling as well as life-changing, I am excited and grateful!
