Welcome back everyone to another great trimester! This past week was our first week of school and with it, our first week of our clinic internship. This was monumental in our school journey, but also nerve racking as we had to meet our brand new clinicians. However, any and all of our concerns were immediately quashed as NUHS hired two new incredible docs to take over as the new clinicians. Dr. Priest and Dr. Bejarano have both presented themselves as more than capable of guiding our education through this final stage of our education as we apply our clinical knowledge and treat actual patients. While I mostly interact with Dr. Bejarano since he is the clinician in the PPC, it is clear they are both extremely qualified and passionate physicians. I couldn’t be more eager to learn from them.
Part of our orientation process is familiarizing ourselves with the Athena electronic health records (EHR) system. Many individuals do not realize just how much of our job relies on note taking and that documentation is a crucial part of healthcare. While we have had classes to prepare us on how to properly document and take a SOAP note, new software can always be challenging to navigate. Being an intern and future physician is not only about learning how to provide care to patients, but how to navigate the world of healthcare. This includes documentation, billing, referrals and communication with both patients and peers.
I have never been this excited heading into a new trimester and cannot wait to share every moment of it with you all! I hope you are all off to a wonderful start to your own classes and will continue to join me on this ride.
