This past week was a wild one down here in Florida. We got our part 1 national board exam results back after a long six weeks of waiting…and I am super happy to report that I passed! I’m very relieved I passed it on the first attempt, and I am proud of my tri because the majority of us passed all together! It is nice to have the load of basic sciences off our shoulders and now be able to focus on the clinical courses full time.
On Friday, we had a fun Sports Council Club meeting in which Dr. G and Dr. Weiland helped us review lower extremity taping techniques in order to prepare our students to volunteer the Run Disney Princess Half Marathon this weekend. Although I didn’t attend, our members had great reviews of the experience and enjoyed learning from Kinesio and working with the athletes.
To celebrate my exam results and completing the first round of exams this week, I took some time to enjoy the weekend a little. My girlfriend and I went to the beach, hiked at Sawgrass Lake Park, and tried several breweries located in Pinellas County. A cool feature of the area is that the city sponsors a free “beer passport” featuring 41 breweries (all within an hour drive of NUHS-Fla.) that you can explore and get stamps around town. If you complete the stamp page, the city will mail you free swag! With school it is not all that often I get to go and find a new place, but I certainly enjoyed putting stamps in the book this weekend.
I also decided to fix a nice feast this weekend and tried my hand at carne asada cheese fries with homemade New Mexican red chile sauce. It was so delicious I don’t have any leftovers!! I certainly enjoyed taking a weekend off, though now it is time to kick it back into gear and work hard until my family comes to visit here in a few weeks.
