Reflecting on the Trimester

Another trimester has flown by, and wow, what an eventful one it’s been! As the weeks pass, I find myself getting more and more excited about the path I’m on. The deeper I dive into my classes and clinic shifts, the more I feel confident that this is exactly where I’m meant to be—helping people through acupuncture and herbal medicine. It’s a journey I’m proud to be on, and this trimester has been full of growth in both my education and personal life.

One of the major highlights was beginning to treat patients in the student clinic. There’s nothing quite like the hands-on experience that makes all the theory come to life. It’s challenging, yet incredibly rewarding, knowing that my work is making a difference in someone’s health.

On a personal note, wedding planning has been in full swing, and it’s been a whirlwind! Trying to balance school, clinic and wedding preparations has kept me on my toes. And, of course, exams always seem to arrive way too fast, but I’m managing to keep up (most of the time!).

This trimester also marked my first term as a board member of the AHMSA (Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine Student Association), which has been both exciting and challenging. It’s always tough to step into something new, but I’m lucky to have an amazing team to work with. This term was a trial run, and we’ve learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t. I’m looking forward to what we can accomplish in the future!

As the end of the trimester creeps up, the deadlines keep coming. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, but there’s something oddly comforting about knowing it will all come together. Will I procrastinate and stay up late finishing everything, or will I actually stay ahead of the game? Guess we’ll find out! In the meantime, I’m wishing everyone a restful and joyful holiday season ahead! 😊

Carly Fleming

Hello! My name is Carly Fleming. I am a 4th-trimester student of the Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine Doctoral Program at National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois. I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. In my free time, I enjoy being outside, reading thrillers,  crocheting/knitting, and anything that involves my dog, Piper. I am beyond excited to be providing this online community with education on the great things that Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can do for our health and well-being, as well as highlighting some of my own interests within the field. I'm so happy you are here!
