dc interns volunteer rowing eventSeven chiropractic interns from National University’s Florida campus, provided care to athletes at the 2013 US Rowing Masters National Championships held August 15 -18.  The interns, working under the supervision of Chris Arick, DC, provided soft tissue work and myofascial release before and after the event.

The event drew more than 1,000 entries, including master rowers from 28 states and provinces in the U.S. and Canada, and was sponsored by US Rowing and the Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates.  Held in Sarasota’s Nathan Benderson Park, the four-day regatta included 199 events across 11 categories.

Dr. Arick, a clinical science instructor at NUHS, says: “Our interns had never experienced working at a rowing event before. It’s not as common as a running or biking event. That means they were treating different presentations, complaints and interns volunteer treatments rowing eventcombinations of conditions than they had seen in past outreach activities.”

Interns participating in the rowing event included: Jake LaVere, Sean Spiegel, Ryon Bosscher, Schuyler Grove, Tim Perenich, Colleen Dor, and Dustin Bledsoe.

“I think it’s wonderful that we have the chance to provide a wealth of sports medicine outreach opportunities to our interns year-round here in Florida,” says Dr. Daniel Strauss, dean of the NUHS College of Professional Studies – Florida.
