Recently, I spent the weekend out in Cocoa Beach, Florida with about 12 other NUHS – Florida students competing at Chiro Games, representing our student club.
Chiro Games are basically an NCAA tournament for chiropractic schools across the U.S. and into Canada. We all meet in Cocoa Beach every year to compete in sports ranging from football and beach volleyball, to running and swimming. There are also a of couple socials at the hotel (hosted by RockTape and Integrity Doctors), which brings everyone together. Being able to become friends with students from across the country is always a super fun experience, and is even better when RockTape provides free beer!!!
This year we sent students to compete as a beach volleyball team, a few golfers, and I competed in the 5K individual run on Saturday, and the swim meet on Sunday! Even though I didn’t place very well in the running events (all were D1 athletes who ran under 18 minutes!!! I wasn’t even close…) I ended up running my second fastest 5K ever, and missed my PR by only 15 seconds. Had a blast on the course and am excited to run again next year.
I also swam this weekend; it was my first swim meet in about five years, so I was a little rusty to say the least. That being said, I placed third in all four events I competed in! I swam the 100-IM, 100-Breaststroke, 50-Fly, and 50-Breaststroke. It was so much fun to race in the pool again, hopefully I’ll be able to find a more time to train a little more so the butterfly doesn’t hurt quite as much as this time around.
I loved my experience at Chiro Games, and already can’t wait for next year. Had a great group of students up there to hang out with and made a ton of new friends across the country. I would absolutely call the weekend a success!!
