Brisk wintry weather greeted families and grads for the December 2013 commencement ceremonies for both the NUHS College of Allied Health Sciences and College of Professional Studies.

The College of Allied Health Sciences welcomed NUHS President Joseph Stiefel as its commencement speaker. Dr. Stiefel urged grads to recognize this day as a concrete achievement of a previous goal, and to use that sense of accomplishment as an encouraging reminder as they move forward with additional steps in their plans for the future.

The College of Professional Studies heard encouraging words from Michael P. Rowane, DO, MS, FAAFP, FAAO. Dr. Rowane is an educational leader in the osteopathic medical profession, and director of medical education for the University Hospitals system in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Rowane shared with students several accounts of professional bias from the allopathic profession that osteopathic physicians experienced in earlier years. He advised students to always present their professions in the most positive light for themselves, their professions as a whole, and for the benefit of the public.
