In celebration of Naturopathic Medicine Week from May 14-20, the NUHS chapter of the Naturopathic Medical Student Association hosted a guided nature walk around the Lombard Prairie Path near campus. The student club discussed local medicinal plants that can be found on the trail.

Many of the plants tied in directly with the curriculum. Some are also covered on NPLEX, the licensing exam for naturopathic physicians.

“These include dandelion, burdock, garlic mustard and violets,” said Kimberly Reid, Vice-chair for NMSA. “We talked about the medicinal actions of the herbs, what important constituents are found in these plants and how they can be used in treatment plans for future patients.”

For Naturopathic Medicine Week, students will be participating in various events all week and posting on the social media hashtag: #nmwnuhs2023. Naturopathic Medical Student Association (NMSA) International is also hosting competitions for all ND schools. Winners get the golden avocado.
