New Year, Intentional Me

Friday, January 24, 2025

Welcome Back! It has been a relaxing last few weeks, but now it’s time to get back into the grind. The new year always brings a mix of emotions — excitement, anticipation and often a bit of pressure to make big changes. Now that we’re a few weeks into the new year, I’ve been reflecting on the changes and improvements I want to make in my life to get closer to the person I aspire to be. These changes might be small — like daily habits, managing my finances or the way I spend my free time — but each little step can have a big impact.

I’m not one to set a formal New Year’s resolution. After all, if we have the ability to change at any point during the year, why should we place the weight of that change solely on the fresh start of January 1st? Instead, I prefer to think of it as a continuous journey of growth. Every day is an opportunity to improve.

Setting ourselves up for success can often sound easier than it actually is. But sometimes, success starts with the simplest habits. For example, making sure all our devices are charged the night before. I’m definitely guilty of rushing to find a charger at the last minute, but I try to keep chargers on hand just in case.

Small, thoughtful actions like downloading course materials ahead of time or laying out gym clothes the night before to set the intention or sending an email to professors about questions you didn’t get a chance to ask during class can make a huge difference. The chances are, if you have a question, someone else probably does too and that’s a great way to stay ahead.

I also want to prioritize using my free time wisely. Sometimes, it’s easy to fall into a pattern of scrolling on social media or binge-watching shows, but I’m learning to use that time more intentionally — whether it’s reading, exercising, or even just taking a moment for myself to recharge.

So, here’s to a new year full of potential. Let’s make the most of every opportunity, no matter how small, and continue working toward the lives we envision for ourselves. Happy New Year!
