Live Video Stream of Recent Commencement a Success

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

In another first during National University’s recent commencement, the College of Professional Studies ceremony was available on live streaming Internet video via Ustream.

“The live video stream allowed family, friends, and alumni from around the world to participate in the live event,” says Mr. Ron Mensching, Vice President for Business Services. The computer services department reported that more than 150 viewers from the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, Turkey and the United Kingdom logged in to watch the event.

Over 150 people tuned into the live streaming event.

This December’s graduating class also included the historic first graduates of National University’s Florida DC program. Staff, faculty and students in Florida who were unable to attend, could watch on their personal computers, or join the festivities in the Annex where a group gathered to watch on a projector screen and enjoy refreshments.

The December graduation also premiered a new audio system installed in the Lombard campus gymnasium.  The new system is designed to offer exceptionally clear sound for listeners seated anywhere in the gymnasium or student center auditorium. It improved the listening experience for both the audience at the live event and those watching on video.

With the success of the first live stream video, National University will offer streaming video for future commencements. Live stream video will cover other important university events, such as next year’s historic inauguration of a new president, which will be an important institutional milestone.
