of 1983, has practiced in Baltimore, Maryland for the past 31 years.

Nina and her sister Ann recently visited the NUHS Illinois campus to present their family’s gift. “My Dad always remembered National, and especially held a great respect for Dr. Joseph Janse, whom he studied under and who led the college back in his day,” she says.

“Dad was a fighter pilot in World War II, and he was stationed in the Aleutian Islands off the coast of Alaska. While climbing out of his plane, he slipped on the icy wing and herniated two discs in his back, with pain radiating down both legs,” Dr. Nina Showan recalls. “He went to three orthopedic physicians, and nobody could help him. One of his buddies convinced him to call his chiropractor and that was how he finally recovered.  This is also why my father got into the profession himself.”

Dr. Nina Showan also credits her father’s inspiration for why she chose a chiropractic career. “All my life while growing up I heard people say ‘Your dad helped me,’ ‘Your Dad fixed me.’ So those testimonials are how and why I came into the profession.”

“We are so proud when multiple generations in a family become part of our National University legacy,”says NUHS President Joseph Steifel. “And we are especially grateful to Dr. Peter Showan and his family for choosing to remember our university in this generous way.”
