In another welcome celebration this holiday season, National University held its December commencement ceremonies honoring 70 graduates from several degree and certificate programs.

The morning ceremony for College of Allied Health Science graduates featured President Joseph Stiefel as commencement speaker. Dr. Stiefel spoke on how easy it is to assess one’s progress in an academic setting, but not so easy in professional life. Instead of accepting feedback that they are doing “just fine” in their career and life, he urged graduates to reach for higher performance markers with their patients and in their career goals.

The afternoon ceremony for the College of Professional Studies featured special guest speaker Robert C. Jones, DC. Immediate past president of the New Mexico Chiropractic Association and chair of the University of Western States Board of Trustees, Dr. Jones is a practitioner of and strong advocate for broader scope of practice for DCs as well as a pioneer in integrative care.

Dr. Jones stressed the importance of better primary care through the application of an integrative approach. He pointed to the rise of today’s patient-centric medical home model as an ideal that NUHS had the foresight to prepare for many years ago. He also congratulated graduates on choosing a school with a strong evidence-based practice curriculum, since it will give them an advantage in meeting today’s demands on health care practitioners.
