Settling Into the Season

NUHS' swans on Lake Janse

It’s the start of week three in this fall trimester here in Illinois at NUHS, and the campus seems to be finding its groove as students and staff settle into a rhythm. The baby cygnets that dotted the ponds throughout summer are now practically as large as their parents, and the trees are starting to turn! The once full, green trees now have splashes of gold, orange and red, sending signals that fall is near.

Campus Happenings: Club Lunch

This week brings one of my favorite community traditions: Club Lunch. I’ll be tabling on behalf of the Garden Club, sharing ways students can dig into campus life (literally!) and tap into the miraculous power of plants. I am thrilled to welcome classmates into the garden, not only as a hobby but also as an extension of our curriculum in natural health and medicine.

Adding to my studies as a student in the Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) program, I’m beginning to embark upon a journey through the philosophy and foundations of herbal medicine in ancient healing practices as part of my first courses in the Doctor of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (AHM) program*. These first lessons are like planting seeds as I learn the traditions, worldviews and wisdom that have formed holistic healing over generations.

The Colors of the Season

With the culmination of the turning of leaves, sharing of meals together as a student body, and in the first sparks of deeper learning to come, Week 3 presents itself as a transitional time from the newness of the trimester into regular patterns of practice, progress and grounding. Here’s to more connection, color and discovery as the season unravels!
