NUHS interns Kristine Plasky and Mikel Marshall sit at the NUHS table, where the interns distribute materials and China Gel to veterans, their families, friends, and other vendors who work with Veterans and look for resources for them to offer.

NUHS Whole Health Center interns recently participated in the DuPage Veteran’s Resource Fair in Wheaton to raise awareness about the Veterans Clinic and the free services provided to veterans and their families. Among over 50 other agencies, NUHS clinicians and interns distributed brochures and flyers along with samples of China Gel.

“The event had a really great turn-out. Many were very happy that it was possible to hold the event again since it had been put on hold due to COVID for so long,” said Kristine Plasky, an NUHS oriental medicine student who is also chair of the NUHS Acu-Skills Club. “It was especially great that it was held during the month of November since it’s National Veterans & Military Families Month.”

Plasky added that NUHS interns were also able to discover additional resources for veterans and volunteer opportunities for interns at the fair.

“I really liked mingling with the other vendors and learning about the resources that are out there,” she said. “It means a lot to be able to offer even more to our patients. It is empowering for both them and us.”

The NUHS Veterans Clinics at the Illinois campus and Florida-site currently offers acupuncture treatment to veterans free of charge. Veterans and their spouses also receive a 20% discount on all other services. The clinic specializes in treating PTSD, addiction, anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, flashbacks, musculoskeletal injuries and more.

To schedule an appointment at one of NUHS’s Veterans Clinics or for a complete listing of discounted services available to veterans and their spouses, contact the Lombard, Illinois clinic at 630-629-9664, or the Pinellas Park, Florida clinic at 727-873-7870.
