October 2025 Recap: Alumni and Industry Professional Speaker Events

To guide students in developing their professional careers, National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) offers many professional and academic opportunities that frequently host guest speakers, technique practice sessions, professional development seminars and more. Students benefit from learning and staying informed about topics in their field, while having the opportunity to network and build connections with successful alumni and industry professionals before graduation.  

Throughout October, NUHS featured a compelling lineup of guest speakers who shared insights on various health care topics:  

  • Oct. 8: The University hosted a presentation on perimenopause in practice, featuring nurse practitioner Lori Krischer, CRNP, FMACP. Ms. Krischer, a practitioner since 1998 and clinical director at the Functional Medicine Academy, focused on estrogen dominance in perimenopausal women, guiding attendees through its symptoms, diagnosis and treatment approaches. She shared practical tools, including hormonal testing methods, treatment planning software and NutriDyn supplements. 
  • Oct. 15: NUHS invited alumnus Jeff Garofalo, DC, ’02, to present on common practice mistakes and tips for building a successful career as a chiropractic physician. Drawing from his experience as the founder of Midwest Disc Clinic, Dr. Garofalo emphasized the importance of specializing in a niche, achieving clinical excellence and understanding whether to pursue business ownership or team roles. 
  • Oct. 21: Naturopathic Professional Student Association (NPSA) invited Jason Nobles, DC, from the Wellness Way to host a seminar about the effect food has on inflammation and gut health. Dr. Nobles highlighted insights into food allergies, diagnostic tools, and shared practical strategies for reducing inflammation and improving digestive health through personalized dietary adjustments.
  • Oct. 22: NutriDyn’s functional medicine consultant Ashley Henderickson led a presentation on leaky gut and dysbiosis, detailing the underlying causes, common symptoms and evidence-based approaches to support gastrointestinal health. She outlined the 5R Protocol- remove, replace, reinoculate, repair and retain- and discussed practical tools including food sensitivity testing, elimination diets and targeted supplementation to help restore and maintain a healthy gut. 
  • Oct. 30: Senior naturopathic program manager from National Chiropractic Mutual Insurance Company (NCMIC) Jackie Hellrung led a presentation on malpractice insurance. Throughout her presentation, she addressed coverage options, common claims, the significance of informed consent, understanding state-specific practice scopes and the role of insurance in protecting practitioners from financial and legal risks. She also provided practical advice on policy selection, defense strategies and avoiding common pitfalls to help students safeguard their careers and practices.
