Earlier this month, National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) celebrated Naturopathic Medicine Week, a national effort to raise awareness about the power of naturopathic medicine and its role in helping individuals achieve lasting health and wellness.

Naturopathic Medicine Week was established following a Congressional resolution passed by the U.S. Senate recognizing naturopathic medicine as a safe, effective and affordable system of integrative health care. Senate Resolution 420, passed in 2014, highlights the profession’s growing role in preventing chronic illness, improving health outcomes and expanding access to patient-centered care.

Naturopathic Medicine Week is not merely a commemoration; it’s an opportunity to showcase the efficacy, safety and affordability of naturopathic medicine. By spotlighting the preventive and whole-health nature of naturopathic medicine, the week-long event encourages Americans to explore new avenues for achieving and maintaining optimal health.

This year’s theme, Healthcare that Listens. Medicine that Looks Deeper, captured something essential about how naturopathic doctors (NDs) practice: they take the time to hear your whole story, then look beyond your symptoms to find and treat the root cause of what’s going on. Throughout the week, NUHS, the American Association of Naturopathic Practitioners (AANP) and affiliates across the U.S. joined together in leading a nationwide digital campaign to increase visibility of naturopathic medicine and the value of whole-person care. Check out posts from the AANP and participate on your own social media using the hashtag #NatMedWeek2026.

We hope this information provides a clearer picture of what makes naturopathic medicine so distinctive: doctors who listen deeply, treat root causes, offer truly personalized care, and bring years of rigorous training to every patient relationship. But the conversation doesn’t end here.

Right now, licensed naturopathic doctors are regulated in 26 U.S. jurisdictions. That means millions of Americans still live in states where access to a licensed ND isn’t guaranteed and where the protections that come with licensure don’t yet exist.

That’s where you come in. Advocating for expanded access to naturopathic medicine is one of the most impactful things you can do for the future of health care in your community. Better access means better outcomes, lower costs, and more Americans able to experience care that truly sees and treats the whole person.

To get involved, join the AANP’s advocacy efforts and help push for licensure expansion nationwide.
