On Friday, July 25th, the Student Council of the Illinois campus hosted SummerFest—an afternoon of laughter, connection and community for students across all trimesters. The event was packed with fun: delicious food, music, a dunk tank, a watermelon eating contest and our much-anticipated SACA volleyball tournament.

The Importance of Community.

It was one of those few moments in the year where everyone—from first tri students to interns—came together outside the classroom to simply enjoy each other’s company. This year’s dunk tank featured three of our beloved professors who volunteered to get soaked, much to everyone’s delight. It was a lighthearted and hilarious way to connect with faculty beyond the usual classroom pressures.

These moments matter! In a program as demanding as ours, it’s easy to get tunnel vision and focus solely on exams, boards and clinical requirements. But community is just as essential to our growth as doctors. Events like SummerFest remind us to take a breath, step outside, and reconnect with our classmates, our mentors and ourselves.

The Importance of Support.

Laughter, connection and friendly competition help foster the sense of support that makes this journey not just bearable, but meaningful. They remind us that we’re not alone, that we’re growing together, leaning on one another and building lasting relationships that will extend far beyond graduation.

Thank you to everyone who helped organize SummerFest and to all who participated. It was wonderful to see everyone who participated in our SACA volleyball tournament. We hope this tradition continues to grow and bring us closer, one summer at a time.
