This past week I practiced taking a patient history, including the comprehensive medical history and associated pain diagram. It was a perfect refresher exercise to complete before starting clinic observation. I was able to complete four hours of clinic observation last week, and it was an interesting experience. I got to interact with multiple clinicians, interns, and patients.
The first patient that I was able to observe was an individual with neck pain and low back pain, so it was a pretty standard chiropractic appointment. I enjoyed observing the different adjustment techniques that the intern chose, as well as the rehabilitation and diaphragmatic breathing techniques that were utilized. The second patient that I was able to observe was for maintenance care for an individual with chronic shoulder and low back pain. I had never had the opportunity to observe cold laser therapy, and the patient seemed to really enjoy the implementation of this treatment modality. I also got to observe the flexion distraction table in use. I enjoyed talking about chiropractic care with both the clinicians, and the interns.
Observing at the clinic was exciting, as I will be there in less than a year! I also loved that the information that I have learned through the chiropractic program was able to be utilized, and I cannot wait to be able to help patients in the near future!
