Service is not just an important facet of a student’s education at National University of Health Sciences (NUHS), but a special commitment for many staff and faculty as well.

On July 21, Learning Resource Center (LRC) director Patricia Genardo and her sister Nancy (Genardo) participated in their 20th consecutive Relay For Life event. Their team, United Against Cancer, was the number two fundraiser in South DuPage County, contributing $6,638 to the organization just this year. Over the past 20 years the team has raised over $118,000 for cancer patients, their families, and research.

Genardo said she has participated in Relay For Life events in memory of her mother and other family members and friends, but also to celebrate the survivors, like her sister.

Over the years, many NUHS students and faculty have volunteered at the Relay event. Past Relays have included Dr. Patricia Coe and National University student interns providing chair massages to cancer survivors and helping the walkers to warm up. Additional faculty providing service and support included Dr. Nick Chancellor, Dr. Brian Anderson, and Dr. Yihyun Kwon to name a few.
