October 2025 Recap: Alumni and Industry Professional Speaker Events

To guide students in developing their professional careers, National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) offers many professional and academic opportunities that frequently host guest speakers, technique practice sessions, professional development seminars and more. Students benefit from learning and staying informed about topics in their field while having the opportunity to network and build connections with successful alumni and industry professionals before graduation.

Throughout October, NUHS featured a compelling lineup of guest speakers who shared insights on various health care topics:

  • Oct. 8: The University hosted a presentation on perimenopause in practice, featuring nurse practitioner Lori Krischer, CRNP, FMACP. Ms. Krischer, a practitioner since 1998 and clinical director at the Functional Medicine Academy, focused on estrogen dominance in perimenopausal women, guiding attendees through symptoms, diagnosis and treatment approaches. She shared practical tools, including hormonal testing methods, treatment planning software and NutriDyn supplements.
  • Oct. 15: NUHS invited alumnus Jeff Garofalo, DC ’02, to present on common practice mistakes and tips for building a successful career as a chiropractic physician. Drawing from his experience as the founder of Midwest Disc Clinic, Dr. Garofalo emphasized the importance of specializing in a niche, achieving clinical excellence and understanding whether to pursue business ownership or team roles.
  • Oct. 21: The Naturopathic Professional Student Association (NPSA) invited Jason Nobles, DC, from The Wellness Way to host a seminar on the impact of food on inflammation and gut health. Dr. Nobles shared insights on food allergies, diagnostic tools and practical strategies for reducing inflammation and improving digestive health through personalized dietary adjustments.
  • Oct. 22: NutriDyn functional medicine consultant Ashley Henderickson led a presentation on leaky gut and dysbiosis, discussing underlying causes, common symptoms and evidence-based approaches to gastrointestinal health. She outlined the 5R Protocol—remove, replace, reinoculate, repair and retain—and reviewed tools such as food sensitivity testing, elimination diets and targeted supplementation.
  • Oct. 30: Jackie Hellrung, senior naturopathic program manager at National Chiropractic Mutual Insurance Company (NCMIC), led a presentation on malpractice insurance. She addressed coverage options, common claims, informed consent, state-specific practice scopes and the role of insurance in protecting practitioners from legal and financial risk. She also shared guidance on policy selection, defense strategies and avoiding common pitfalls.
