NUHS-Florida student, Addison Ozakyol, was recently named
Student of the Year by the American Chiropractic Association's
Sports Council (ACASC.)
The annual Feinberg Student of the Year award is given to a
student who has shown promise, grit, and effort in the field of
sports chiropractic and significant involvement with the ACA Sports
Council.
"To be chosen as Student of the Year means so much to me," said
Ozakyol. "I couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity to
represent NUHS and students interested in sports chiropractic
across the country."
As Second Vice President of the ACA Sports Council, Ozakyol
worked with a team of students to make changes to the ACA Sports
Council's annual symposium in response to COVID-19. Over the course
of only a couple of months, he created several virtual events,
interviews, videos and other content.
"I spent countless hours planning, orchestrating, and editing
content and was incredibly grateful to see it all received so
well," he said.
Ozakyol became interested in sports medicine after receiving
care from a chiropractor and several athletic trainers while
swimming competitively and playing water polo. In addition to
pursuing a doctor of chiropractic from NUHS, he also has his
Bachelor of Science in athletic training from the University of New
Mexico.
"It was a natural progression for me to apply my
chiropractic training to sports medicine and I am very excited to
be back on the sidelines working with athletes again after
graduation," he said.
When he graduates in December, he hopes to work as an associate
for a few years before opening his own practice either back home in
Albuquerque, New Mexico or possibly in Pinellas County,
Florida.
"I really look forward to continuing my work with ACASC as a new
doctor of chiropractic in the upcoming years," he said.
