Things have been very quiet lately. I’m unsure at this point whether I should appreciate the quiet time or be worried that I’m not doing enough. The experience is new for me since I’ve become used to always working with a full plate and always finding something that needs my attention. Either way, I’m learning to appreciate the slower moments while they’re here.
Studying for Board Exams
I think I have finally caught my rhythm of studying for both my current classes and studying for my Part I boards in February. I’m grateful for the generosity of my upper classmen providing me with resources, study materials, and advice as I and other students work toward performing well on this exam. It’s comforting to hear from individuals who have been through this process themselves, and I value the sense of camaraderie that exists among us as students support each other. There is still much to cover, however, I am feeling a great deal more confident towards how I’m utilizing my time, as well as how I’m approaching the subject matter.
Enjoying the Beauty of Fall
Garden Club News: We will be hosting our Annual Fall Harvest Clean-up event this coming Saturday! This will provide a wonderful opportunity for all our new members to bond, learn and become involved with the care of the garden as we prepare it for the cold winter months. It is always exciting to see the changes the garden undergoes during the various seasons, as well as spending time with fellow enthusiasts. If all goes as planned, we may even be introducing two new officers into the positions of secretary and treasurer. The momentum within the club is fast paced, which is why I’m working on a new design for a Garden Club Hoodie for the members to purchase. I look forward to seeing how it develops and hope to provide everyone with something they can proudly wear.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons; however, I haven’t really been in a spooky spirit this year. I plan to attempt to get back into that mode by carving pumpkins and watching movies. Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, which is perfect, because I will be able to participate in the festivities from the comfort of my own home and complete some studying at the same time. A little seasonal fun between study will have to do!
Being a Student Worker
An additional element I have been enjoying recently is my student worker position at the library. I was surprised to find that there is so much more to it than just helping students at the front desk. Reviewing the book inventory has given me insight into the wealth of knowledge contained within our collection, and the network of connections through which we collaborate. I have discovered many interesting books and subjects that I would never have explored until now. I’ve been jotting down a list of books I would like to delve into. The timing could not be more aligned, as I have been deliberately limiting my engagement with social media, online activity and fulfilling orders via my website. While I thoroughly enjoy creating content and maintaining Soul Science, I also recognize when it is necessary to divert some of that energy toward myself and the responsibilities that require my focus. I look forward to spending more time reading, reflecting, planning and de-cluttering as I begin preparations for a period of increased volume of studies.
Planning a Smooth Transition
I wish to make this transition as smoothly as possible. Rather than making drastic changes to my routine immediately, I intend to allow myself the flexibility to make small adjustments that seem reasonable. Whether it is organizing my living space, dedicating time for meditation, getting ahead on schoolwork, or merely savoring an evening without needing to produce anything, I’m striving to be more mindful of where my energy goes.
As the weather grows cooler and the year progresses toward its conclusion, I feel grateful for the chance to slow down a little. Although much lies ahead, including boards, I don’t wish to overlook the peacefulness available to me now simply because I am accustomed to being busy. Perhaps the quiet doesn’t mean that I am doing too little. Maybe, instead, it’s showing that the structure I’m creating with intention is finally taking shape, and as a result more spaciousness is available to me. Discipline really does grant freedom.
