NUHS Naturopathic Medicine Business Program

National University of Health Sciences students graduate with the confidence and real-world skills you’ll need to succeed in today’s health care marketplace.

In addition to being exceptional practitioners, successful naturopathic physicians must also possess superior business skills. NUHS’s ND business curriculum provides students a well-rounded education in everything that goes into running a business, from learning how to advertise, lease a building, manage employees and use accounting software.

Our business curriculum ensures that you graduate with a set of business skills to succeed in today’s health care marketplace. Instead of just learning the basics of how to run a business, NUHS students learn the nuanced aspects of how to start, manage and grow a practice.

The courses have been specifically sequenced to build off each other and provide a well-rounded education into the many small details that goes into running a business, including:

  • How to get a loan
  • Advertising models
  • Choosing the right location
  • Leasing office space
  • Hiring and managing employees
  • Proper billing practices
  • Basic accounting principles
  • Using accounting software and interpretation of reports

Business Skills When You Graduate

Unlike naturopathic physicians of the past who might have had to learn to run a business on their own, NUHS students will have a comprehensive set of business skills upon graduation.

While many new NDs join existing practices as associates in order to learn how to properly run a business, you’ll be prepared to open your practices right away and fast-track your careers to a higher level of income!

Business Coursework

Students will learn about the professional conduct that will become the foundation of how they run their practice.

In addition to basic principles of effective communication through written, verbal, and electronic means, students will learn how to get involved with the local community in order to grow their practice.

Many details must be taken in consideration before an ND practice can open its doors. In this class, students will learn how to apply for a loan, choose a location, get a lease and more.

This class will encompass the various moving parts involved with running a successful health care business. This includes how to hire and manage staff, use business management software programs, understand and execute financial and business performance analysis, set goals, understand local, state and federal tax laws, and plan for retirement.
