Job Summary

The Circulation Coordinator will oversee circulation services, library equipment, the computers and maintenance of the physical plant. Responsibilities include staff training and individual and group instruction. The Coordinator will be involved with Library planning, budgeting, collection development, orientations and Library promotion. The Coordinator will explore emerging technologies related to today’s academic libraries.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

Supervisory and Managerial Responsibilities:

• Participate in Library planning, recommending projects, policies, procedures and technologies that will improve Library services.
• Develop and document circulation procedures to improve their efficiency and effectiveness in supporting all programs
• Hire, train, schedule and evaluate all Circulation Student Assistants.
• Supervise all activities pertaining to circulation, including but not limited to shelving, cash management, room reservations, visitor procedures, minor equipment maintenance and safety and security procedures.
• Report statistics for reference services performed by circulation staff, compile circulation and other statistical reports as needed and provide information for required reports including semi-annual reports and budget requests.
• Maintain the Reserves Collection.
• Report the needs of the physical plant to the Library Director, including reporting equipment problems to Computer Services or the Maintenance Department
• Report errors in processing of new materials to Technical Services Librarian.
• Suggest Library promotional activities/events (e.g. Monthly Websites, Book Displays).
• Serve as NUHS liaison to RAILS/SWAN.
• Advise Library Director of any unmet needs or adverse developments which interfere with the Library carrying out its stated objectives.
• Seek opportunities to promote good public relations for the Library and the University both on and off campus. Refer requests and complaints as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Instruction:

• Participate in Library classes and orientations for new students, faculty and staff.
• Provide instruction to students, employees and visitors at circulation as needed.
• Demonstrate upgrades from SWAN and train staff as needed.
• Other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

• Library Technical Assistant certification.
• A minimum of three years of library circulation experience with demonstrated understanding of all library operations.
• Demonstrated success in supervising adult and student employees.
• Demonstrated commitment to emerging technologies and future academic library trends to maximize student and faculty satisfaction.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Demonstrated common sense and good judgment under pressure.

Preferred:

• Experience in managing library public services.
• Experience with computers and library automation systems. Interest in emerging technologies and their application to academic libraries.
• Familiar with Medical Subject Headings and NLM classification.
• Experience in an academic and/or health science library setting.
• Academic background in biological or health sciences.

Salary:

$18.00/hr
