Roy Settergren
MSACP Program Lecturer, College of Allied Health Science & Distance Education - IL
Roy Settergren, DC, MSACP, MD, has been a lecturer for National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) since 2017. He is currently an instructor for the Master of Science in Advanced Clinical Practice (MSACP) program, teaching pharmacology, problem solving and lab analysis.
Dr. Settergren earned his Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree in 2009 and his MSCAP in 2012, both from NUHS. After pursuing his DC, and while working toward his second master’s degree, he owned a private sports medicine practice in River North, Chicago where he worked with elite and professional athletes. In 2017, he earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) at the International University of Health Science and board certification in Family Medicine. He holds additional certifications in: Musculoskeletal Sonography (RMSK); Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS); Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Additionally, he carries the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
“I like seeing and treating a wide variety of pathologies which is why I did not specialize further. Variety is the spice of life. I may remove a lipoma one day, place a cast another day, or I may have to intubate or put a central line in the next day.”
When choosing to further his education, NUHS’ devotion to evidence-based medicine is what first attracted Dr. Settergren to the university. After learning the rigors of the DC program, he was convinced that NUHS was the right fit for him. After he graduated and saw his education in action, he jumped at the opportunity to come back and engage in a teaching role.
Dr. Settergren describes his students’ enthusiasm as infectious and rejuvenating, which is one of the things he cherishes most about working with them. He feels that teaching helps him perform at his best, because it keeps his knowledge fresh, and that he’s always learning things from a new perspective. He enjoys that his students often ask questions from different angles of thought.
