Nelson Klahr, PhD

Assistant Professor, Basic Sciences-Florida

Nelson Klahr, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Basic Sciences-Florida. He teaches several courses during the first three trimesters of Phase-1 including content related to Histology, Embryology, Neurophysiology and Endocrinology.

Dr. Klahr earned his bachelor of science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Miami in Coral Gables in 1997. He completed his PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Florida in Gainesville in 2011, where his dissertation research focused on using functional MRI. He has conducted research on functional neuroimaging of the brain specific to the addiction pathways and its correlations to emotional response and behavior.

For several years, he worked as an adjunct instructor for anatomy and physiology at the University of Tampa and Hillsborough College. He has also previously taught biology in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and has graded essays for the Advance Placement (AP) examinations.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Klahr actively participates in our university and community. He has served as the Secretary, Vice-Chair and Chair of the Faculty Senate. He is currently on the Board of Directors for the Pinellas County Chiropractic Society (PCCS) and assists with their social media. He is also involved in organizing and coordinating the Florida Alumni network.

Dr. Klahr enjoys many personal hobbies. He often competes in USCF-rated chess tournaments and occasionally plays tennis doubles at local USTA recreation leagues. He proudly displays two of his past MVP trophies from Turkey Bowl.
