Faculty Receive Award at Chiropractic Sports Sciences Symposium

National University of Health Sciences faculty members Claire Johnson, DC, PhD, and Bart Green, DC, PhD, received the Robert C. Reed Award for Best Abstract at the 2019 American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (ACBSP) Annual Chiropractic Sports Sciences Symposium in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Their presentation, "A Bibliometric Analysis of theJournal of Chiropractic Medicine: 2002 to 2018," focused on the sports-related contents of the journal and the impact of the top cited research papers.

 "We are deeply honored that our research was recognized by the ACBSP with this award," Dr. Johnson responded. "This helps to elevate the awareness that our scientific journals help the chiropractic profession achieve greater cultural authority, establishes benchmarks for clinical practice and teaching, and provides international recognition for individuals, institutions and associations in the chiropractic profession."

 Robert C. Reed helped to develop the first Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) course and supported advancing education that led to the formation of the governing board for sports chiropractic certificants, the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians. Dr. Reed was a signer of the original charter for the formation of the ACA Sports Council and is noted as one of the first chiropractors to work with a professional football team, the Los Angeles Rams. The American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians mission is to promote "the highest standards of excellence and clinical competence for chiropractors specializing in sports medicine and physical fitness."

Dr. Johnson is a professor and Editor in Chief for three scientific, peer reviewed journals:Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics(JMPT),Journal of Chiropractic Medicine(JCM), andJournal of Chiropractic Humanities(JCH). Dr. Green is the Associate Editor for JMPT, JCM, and JCH, and the Editor in Chief for theJournal of Chiropractic Education.
