Communications and Media Relations Coordinator
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications, the Communications and Media Relations Coordinator is the primary content creator for the Office of Marketing and Communications. This position interacts with various constituents of the University and public media, working to build awareness, increase engagement, maintain a favorable public image, and position the University as an industry thought leader.
Responsibilities
- Write and edit University publications, news releases, articles/web stories, University announcements, blogs, white papers, and biographies for faculty, staff, and alumni.
- Oversee media relations, including building and sustaining relationships with media outlets, journalists, and relevant influencers such as podcasters, bloggers, etc. .
- Seek out and pitch written and speaking opportunities (i.e. publications, podcasts, webinars, conferences, etc.) for faculty and staff that highlight the University and its offerings.
- Develop and implement new PR initiatives and proactive communication based on industry trends, news, and research.
- Work with media services to distribute press releases, graduation, and scholarship announcements.
- Keep effective documentation, including: building and maintaining contact lists for faculty/alumni experts and media personnel; tracking news releases, media placements, and mentions; and developing an effective PR report, evaluating appropriate analytics.
- Collaborate with other members of the Marketing and Communications team to assist in SEO-friendly content such as for the website, landing pages, emails, videos, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or journalism
- 2-3 years related experience, preferably in higher education
- Proven experience in writing/content creation – please provide samples.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
