Clinical Internship Placement

Internship Placements

On Monday after Student Clinic, all us 8th trimester students signed up for our clinical internships for 9th and 10th trimesters. I was lucky enough to get Chicago clinic placement. The NUHS downtown clinic is a whole health center providing full service primary care services including: chiropractic care, acupuncture, laboratory services, diagnostic imaging and X-ray services, rehabilitation, physical therapy, and nutritional counseling. The clinic is located on historic Maxwell Street in the heart of the University Village Marketplace, which is part of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) campus.

Lambda Chi Sorority Members

Mr. NUHS Pageant

On Thursday evening, the NUHS sorority, Lambda Chi, hosted the 2nd Annual Mr. NUHS pageant. The president of sorority, Candace Gesicki, was kind enough to take time out of her busy day to give me all the details. The competition consisted of clinic attire, interview, swimwear, and talent. According to Candace, "Last year was the first year it was put on and it was a big success. But I have to say, this year was even better and the competition was fierce. Everyone did so well!" Guest judges for the evening included: Dr. Sue Darby, neuroanatomy professor; Kendall Banning, reigning Mr. NUHS; Mary, manager of the campus store; and Dr. Tony Bifero, microbiology professor.

The talent portion of the show was especially riveting. One of my favorite performances was AcroYoga by 8th Tri intern, Nolan Lee. While the song "Gravity" by Sara Bareilles was played, Nolan lifted and contorted the sorority's secretary into several amazing positions. Another great performance was by 6th Tri students, Nick Miramontes and Adam Altman. Together they re-enacted a memorable SNL Chippendales skit by Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley. Other talents consisted of singing, rapping, dancing, playing instruments, and comedy. Hats off to Candace Gesicki and the rest of the Lambda Chi board for a wonderful event and fundraiser.

Editor's Note: The winner and new Mr. NUHS is Taronté Venable, who played guitar and sang an original song.

City Museum in St. Louis

Weekend Trip

The week concluded with a trip to St. Louis on Saturday and Sunday for a baptism. We got into town early Saturday afternoon and had some time to kill, so we went to the City Museum. I am not entirely sure how to describe what the museum was all about, but I will try. The museum is in downtown St. Louis in the former International Shoe Company warehouse. Housed inside is an eclectic mixture of children's playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique "found objects." The mind behind the museum is Bob Cassilly, an internationally acclaimed artist and sculptor. Some of the interested found objects included old chimneys, salvaged bridges, construction cranes, fire trucks, miles of tile, and even two abandoned planes. Very strange and interesting place!
