Julia Kelley, ND, DC, joined the faculty of National University of Health Sciences in 2024 as an instructor in the Department of Clinical Sciences. Her specialties are functional medicine with an emphasis on GI health and hormones.

“Teaching has always been my passion,” said Dr Kelley. “I found myself naturally gravitating toward roles that involved training and mentoring.”

She said the individualized attention she received as a student at NUHS not only enhanced her academic growth, but also supported personal development, which she believes is crucial for success both in and out of the classroom.

“Teaching allows me to combine my love for learning with my desire to serve and support others — and I couldn’t be more excited in this new chapter,” she said.

In addition to her academic achievements, Dr. Kelley served in the United States Marine Corps (USMC), on both active and reserve duty, from 2007 to 2019. She retired from the USMC with the rank of Staff Sargent after receiving an honorable discharge as a disabled combat veteran.

Dr. Kelley earned her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine in 2019 and her Doctor of Chiropractic in 2020 from National University of Health Sciences (NUHS). In addition to her teaching duties, she continues to serve as a preceptor for the Behavior Health Doctoral Program of Arizona State University College of Health Sciences in Tempe, Ariz. and as a yoga instructor at YogaSix in Geneva, Ill.

“My prior military experience has allowed me to develop my skills of discipline, structure and leadership for the classroom,” she noted, “But it has also provided me a unique point-of-view on life to find purpose in community, health and education.”

Dr. Kelley holds a Bachelor of Science in Foods and Nutrition (Dietetics focused) from San Diego State University, ’15 and a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, ’19 and Doctor of Chiropractic, ’20 from National University of Health Sciences-Illinois
