Members of the faculty within both the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine programs are concerned with the diagnosis and treatement of primary care patients within the broad scope of the five branches of Oriental Medicine: acupuncture, herbology, tuina, nutrition and qi gong. A foundation in the philosophy of the Tao, yin/yang and the five elements is followed by comprehensive training in point location and energetics, disease mechanisms and diagnosis.
The faculty concerns itself with teaching the highest standards of the clinical application of acupuncture and moxibustion, herbal therapeutics, oriental medical massage, as well as Chinese nutrition, taichi and qi gong. An emphasis is placed on integrative medicine as students are also immersed in Western clinical science, diagnostics and treatment modalities. Clinical education is a large part of both programs, from observation to full clinical internships.
