On Saturday, March 10th,
free CPR and AED (automated external defribillator) instruction
will be offered at National University of Health Sciences in the
Gymnasium (Building: E north of the pond). The purpose of the
program is to offer free training to the community. Although there
is no cost, participants need to register in advance to obtain
tickets.
The classes will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and are
intended to last approximately 45 minutes. You can register for the
time that fits your schedule as a new session begins every 15
minutes. Your ticket will show the start time of the event. Please
show up at the time you scheduled online.
The DuPage County Health Department offers this free training as
part of its "Start the Heart" program. The unique
program is designed to give a lay person the basic knowledge on how
to respond if they were to witness a sudden cardiac arrest,
according to John Miller, Emergency Response Coordinator with the
DuPage County Health Department. (This course is not
designed for those who need certification as part of their job
requirement.)
"We will have four stations set up to get people through the training in an organized and efficient manner," said Lt. Paul DiRienzo, EMS Officer of the Lombard Fire Department. "Students will be instructed in basic CPR and AED," he added.
