The Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA) hosted a special guest speaker at its annual Complementary and Alternative Medicine Day event on Thursday, September 27. Dr. Keith Overland, president of the American Chiropractic Association, gave an inspiring talk on how the chiropractic profession has moved forward and will continue to move forward in the next generation.
Dr. Overland shared anecdotes from his own first years in practice. He offered students solid advice on how to effectively promote themselves and attract new patients while establishing a professional reputation. He also recalled past challenges where he personally met and surmounted opposition by other medical practitioners in his community who were not supportive of chiropractic medicine.
Students were encouraged by Dr. Overland's detailed account of how he forged success in a sports medicine specialty, and how he worked for the U.S. Olympic Team, the U.S. Tennis Team, and served the team chiropractic physician for the New York Mets.
Throughout his presentation, he encouraged students to become active in SACA, and stay active in legislative efforts on health care reform, so that the future of chiropractic medicine can be even brighter.
