About Me

Photo of MckenzieHi, all! I am McKenzie Mescon, known as "Mackie" to my family and friends and a handful of my professors as well. I started the Naturopathic Program at NUHS in January 2013 and am now just beginning my 5th trimester. This blog is where I will share my stories with you, and I am thrilled to do so! Thank you for being here.

And now, a little about me. I was born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts; a Boston girl who loved sports, playing outside, and reading fantasy stories. Eager to leave home, I studied Biology and Non-Fiction Writing at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York. After college, I moved to the West and learned about the vastness of America, the variety of people and terrain.

Naturopathic Medicine found me during the course of my adventures, and I finally acknowledged that my place in this life is as a naturopathic doctor. I subsequently left my life in the mountains as a "ski bum" to pursue this new adventure in naturopathic education.

My choice to attend NUHS was based on the integrated, collaborative learning environment, the academic rigor, and the location. NUHS has been a fabulous school for me because of its challenging classes, articulate professors, and, most of all, the community.

I stay busy outside of school by coaching lacrosse and ice hockey, cooking delicious dinners with my boyfriend Hanzi, reading novels and the news, and attending yoga classes at a cozy local studio.

I love being outside, so if you come explore campus you will probably find me getting a breath of fresh air between classes, eating lunch at a picnic table, or picking apples from the tree next to Lake Janse. If you can't find me on campus, please feel free to reach me by email with any questions, curiosities, or comments.

Be Well!
